The first thing that one should know when looking at granite or natural stone is what am I really looking at? Granite is defined in two categories. The first being the geological definition: granite is a plutonic rock whose main components are colored feldspar, white quartz and black ferromagnesian minerals. All these minerals are what give granite its different composition and hardness. In the natural stone industry, granite is defined as igneous rock suitable for cutting and polishing.
